Supply Teaching Shropshire

Work as a supply teacher in Shropshire

Supply Teach in Shropshire

Supply Teaching Jobs in Shropshire

Shropshire is a fantastic place to work as a supply teacher or teaching assistant, offering a mix of rural schools, vibrant market towns, and supportive education communities. At SupplySupplied, a teacher-led agency, we help supply teachers in Shropshire, TAs, and cover supervisors find flexible, rewarding roles across the county — from Shrewsbury and Telford to Ludlow, Bridgnorth, Oswestry, Market Drayton, and Whitchurch. Whether you’re looking for day-to-day supply teaching jobs, long-term placements, or something in between, our dedicated team is here to support you every step of the way.

Why Choose SupplySupplied in Shropshire

As a teacher-led agency, we understand the realities of supply teaching better than anyone. We know what makes a great school day, what support you need, and how important it is to feel valued. That’s why we work closely with schools across Shropshire to match you with roles that suit your strengths, preferences, and availability.

Shropshire offers a wide range of school environments — from small rural primaries to large secondary academies — giving you the chance to build experience, confidence, and variety in your teaching career. Many of our supply teachers in Shropshire tell us they enjoy the balance of structure and flexibility that supply work brings, especially in a county with such a friendly and welcoming education community.

We also keep things simple: fast registration, clear communication, and no pressure to take roles that don’t feel right. You stay in control of your schedule while we handle the admin.

Types of Supply Roles Available Across Shropshire

We support a wide range of supply teaching jobs across the county, including:

  • Primary Supply Teachers: Covering EYFS, KS1, and KS2 in schools across Shrewsbury, Telford, Ludlow, Bridgnorth, Oswestry, and surrounding areas.
  • Secondary Supply Teachers: Subject-specific and general cover roles in mainstream and academy settings.
  • Teaching Assistants (TAs): Supporting pupils in classrooms, small groups, or one-to-one, including SEN support.
  • SEND Specialists: Working with pupils who need additional support in specialist or mainstream settings.
  • Cover Supervisors: Ideal for those with classroom experience who want to support learning without planning or marking.

Whether you’re newly qualified, returning to teaching, or looking for flexible work that fits around your life, we’ll help you find the right opportunities.

How It Works

1. Register with us: Our registration process is quick and straightforward. We’ll verify your documents, complete safeguarding checks, and get to know your preferences.

2. Get matched with roles: We’ll contact you with suitable placements based on your availability, experience, and travel preferences.

3. Start working: You choose the roles you want. We handle the admin, timesheets, and communication with schools.

4. Ongoing support: We stay in touch, check in regularly, and make sure you feel supported in every placement.

Safeguarding and Compliance

Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. All supply teachers and support staff must complete enhanced DBS checks, provide references, and meet our compliance standards before starting work. Schools trust us because we take safeguarding seriously — and we’re proud of that.

Start Your Supply Journey in Shropshire

If you’re ready to begin flexible, rewarding supply teaching jobs in Shropshire, we’d love to hear from you. Whether you’re based in Shrewsbury, Telford, Ludlow, Oswestry, Bridgnorth, Market Drayton, or anywhere in between, we can help you find roles that fit your lifestyle and experience.

Many of our teachers also choose to work in nearby areas, and we regularly support schools across Birmingham, Worcestershire, and Herefordshire. If you’re open to traveling a little further, these neighboring regions offer even more opportunities for flexible supply teaching jobs, long-term placements, and specialist roles. Exploring roles across multiple counties can help you build experience, increase your weekly hours, and find the perfect balance between flexibility and stability.

How I Became a Supply Teacher in Shropshire

And You Can Too

If you’re thinking about becoming a supply teacher in Shropshire, I’ve been exactly where you are now. It can feel like a big step at first, but once you understand the process, it’s actually very straightforward — and the flexibility is a game‑changer.

I work across Shropshire myself, and I’ve put together this guide to show you what you need, how to get started, and what it’s really like working in schools across the county.

1. Making Sure I Had the Right Qualifications

The first thing I checked was whether I had everything needed to work as a supply teacher. In Shropshire, you’ll need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • An Enhanced DBS
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Some recent classroom experience (helpful, but not essential if you’re an ECT)

If you trained overseas, you may need to apply for UK QTS — but once that’s sorted, you’re good to go.

2. Getting My DBS Sorted

Your DBS is essential. Mine was already on the Update Service, which made things easier, but if yours isn’t, don’t worry — you can still apply for a new one.

Most agencies will guide you through it, and once it’s done, you won’t have to think about it again.

3. Pulling Together the Documents

Before I registered with an agency, I gathered everything they’d need:

  • Photo ID
  • Proof of address
  • DBS certificate
  • QTS certificate
  • Two references
  • Safeguarding training

Having it all ready meant I could start working quickly.

4. Registering With a Local Agency

This was the step that made the biggest difference. I chose a local, teacher‑led agency because they understand Shropshire schools and the realities of classroom life.

A good agency will:

  • Pay fairly and transparently
  • Offer regular work
  • Support you with compliance
  • Give you access to day‑to‑day and long‑term roles
  • Match you with schools that suit your style

Shropshire schools really value reliability, and being with a local agency helps you build those relationships.

5. Understanding the Pay

Before I started, I wanted a clear idea of what I’d earn. In Shropshire, the typical rates look like this:

  • Teachers: £150–£205 per day
  • ECTs: £130–£150 per day
  • TAs: £70–£130 per day
  • SEND roles: often slightly higher

6. Choosing the Type of Work That Suited Me

One of the best things about supply teaching is the freedom to choose how you work. I’ve done a mix of:

  • Day‑to‑day cover
  • Short‑term placements
  • Long‑term roles
  • Primary, secondary and SEND settings

You can shape your week around your life, not the other way around.

7. Building a Good Reputation

This part matters more than anything else. I made sure to:

  • Arrive on time
  • Follow the school’s behaviour policy
  • Leave clear handover notes
  • Be friendly and adaptable

Word travels fast in Shropshire, and once schools know they can rely on you, the work comes in steadily. I found this Supply Teacher Kit helpful.

8. Enjoying the Benefits of Supply Teaching in Shropshire

Working across Shropshire has been genuinely rewarding. The schools are welcoming, the commutes are short, and the balance is brilliant. No planning, no marking, no endless meetings — unless you choose a long‑term role.

For me, supply teaching has offered the freedom I didn’t realise I needed.
